TIG Welder β Suzukid PosiTIG DC160ΒΆ
OverviewΒΆ
The Suzukid PosiTIG DC160 is a compact DC-only TIG welder with lift-arc start, suitable for mild steel, stainless steel, and general workshop tasks. No AC mode β no aluminum TIG. Includes built-in pre/post gas flow, adjustable current, and simple front-panel controls.
Key Specs (Essential Only)ΒΆ
- Type: DC TIG / DC Stick (DCEN recommended)
- Current Range: 10β160 A
- Input: 100 V (Japan)
- Arc Start: Lift-TIG
- Duty Cycle: ~160 A @ typical household voltage
- Torch Connector: Standard DINSE
- Gas Control: Internal solenoid + external regulator
- No AC mode: Cannot weld aluminum (needs AC cleaning)
Polarity (Critical!)ΒΆ
Correct TIG polarity:
- π Torch (TIG torch cable):
β(negative) - π Work clamp:
+(positive)**
This is DCEN (DC Electrode Negative). Reversing β extreme tungsten overheating and evaporation.
Argon SetupΒΆ
- Recommended flow rate: 7β10 L/min
- Best used with a ball flow meter (γγγΌγ‘γΌγΏγΌ) for accurate visual control
- Cylinder β regulator β ball meter β hose β torch
Tungsten TipsΒΆ
- Material: Thoriated (2% ThOβ), ceriated, or lanthanated
- Diameter: 1.6 mm (standard for 30β120 A)
- Grind: Long taper, parallel to length
- Stick-out: 3β4 mm from cup
- Torch cup: #5β7 ceramic
Typical SettingsΒΆ
| Material | Thickness | Current | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mild Steel | 1β3 mm | 40β90 A | DCEN, 7β8 L/min |
| Stainless | 1β3 mm | 50β100 A | Keep heat low to avoid color |
| Thin Sheet | <1 mm | 20β40 A | Sharp tungsten, low flow |
| Stick Mode | β | 70β120 A | For basic outdoor use |
Usage NotesΒΆ
- Clean metal thoroughly (wire brush, acetone)
- Hold 1β2 mm arc gap
- Keep torch angle ~10β15Β° from vertical
- Avoid excess gas flow (causes turbulence β contamination)
- Listen for the post-flow hiss after releasing the trigger
Accessories to ConsiderΒΆ
- Ball flow meter (argon)
- #5β#7 cups
- 1.6 mm and 2.4 mm tungsten rods
- Filler rods (ER70S-2, SUS308L)
- Auto-darkening helmet
- Gas lens kit (optional, smoother flow)
