Sea Water Desalination Device

Solar-assisted multi-effect evaporation desalination work with practical product-engineering lessons.

Sea Water Desalination Device
Outdoor collector-field installation for the desalination system.

All students in Professor Begrambekov's lab participated in the desalination project. For us it was mostly like a modern research-assistant role: we had our own plasma work, but sometimes helped with the device development when the project needed hands.

The work ranged from vacuum condensation and boiling salted water to solar collectors, glass-to-metal connections, and actual plasma deposition experiments for the black coating on the collector pipes. It was a side job, but it taught us a lot about practical product-engineering struggles: sealing, heating, condensing, connecting unlike materials, and making a real prototype behave outside the clean boundaries of a paper design.
